The mind-body connection is the link between a person's thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors and their physical health. This is a three part class and will come with handouts, champion group discussion, and delve into useful tools to enhance quality of life. The mind body spirit connection is real, and when you understand how it all works you're able to more fully step into your own power. Each week we will focus on one aspect of the connection. You have heard people talk about the connection between the mind, body, and spirit. This simply pertains to an individual’s mental, physical, and emotional/spiritual health.

You have likely noticed that when something is troubling you mentally or emotionally, you actually begin to manifest symptoms physically. Your heart starts racing, you may sweat more than usual, you have a hard time sleeping because you keep thinking about the problem – and you begin to feel lethargic and fatigued. This is when the mind-body-spirit are out of balance. However, when your mind is at peace, you are more likely to be happier, kinder, and more grateful, because you’re not so embroiled from within. Physically, you are relaxed and ready to take on whatever life throws your way. Dealing with struggles is a part of life that cannot always be avoided. Strengthening the connection between the mind, body, and spirit takes effort, so here is how these three factors work together to benefit your overall health.

About Kara: In her own words ...

Writer. Mother. Human. I am all of these things and fully embrace them. I never considered myself a photographer until I learned that my camera can tell a story just as well as my pen. Life is hard, art is everywhere- but finding it is easy, being vulnerable and sharing it was not always for me. So I started my writing career as a ghost, And I will continue that line of work because it brings me joy to help others find their literary voice and glory is not why I do this. But it’s time to introduce myself. My name is Kara, and here we go.

I’ve been a contributing writer for several online publications including Coastal Bend Mom Collective, Love You Strong, Folkie Life and The Mighty. I’ve done several on contract stints as an educational writer for companies such as Study, Kaplan, and Her Idea. I’ve ghost written two novels and over 250 articles on a wide range of topics, ranging from homesteading to dog training to politics to social matters. Newly certified in Grant Writing, I’m also working on songwriting and polishing my editorial/editing skills.

I studied English Lit and American History in college, but experience has been the best teacher. Music is lifeblood to me and in my spare time, I sing, rescue animals, hold my babies and let kindness and integrity lead my way.

"The Artist Way," by Julia Cameron is not exclusively about writing! It is about discovering and developing the artist within whether a painter, poet, screenwriter or musician but it is a lot about writing. If you have always wanted to pursue a creative dream, have always wanted to play and create with words or paints, this book will gently get you started and help you learn all kinds of paying-attention techniques; and that, after all, is what being an artist is all about. It's about learning to pay attention." — Anne Lamott

About Terri Hendrix:

Recognized by Acoustic Guitar magazine as one of Texas’ 20 essential contemporary singer-songwriters, Terri Hendrix has earned fans worldwide for her singular fusion of folk, pop, country, blues, and jazz, delivered with poetic grace, melodic flair, and plenty of wit and wisdom. Along the way, she’s also co-written a Grammy-winning instrumental (the Chicks’ “Lil’ Jack Slade”), and garnered such honors as a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame, the Art of Peace Award by Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, the Distinguished Alumni Award at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, and induction into the Women’s Hall of Fame in San Marcos, Texas. Her master recordings and archives are housed at the esteemed Wittliff Collections at Texas State University. Embodying Texas’ independent spirit, this classically trained vocalist and virtuoso guitar, mandolin, and harmonica player has done it entirely on her own, releasing every album since her 1996 debut on her Wilory Records label — often using a fan-financing model she developed years before crowdfunding arrived.
