The OYOU is committed to paying its teachers, artists, and performers. We are also committed to outreach within our community, celebrating diversity, and providing an artistic outlet to those with disabilities.

The entire industry of the performing and visual arts has been turned upside down due to advances in technology and a massive shift in how people consume music and view the arts. We provide a source of income to artists by giving them an audience in which to perform and or teach.

The OYOU creates an atmosphere where those that create and make their living in the arts can not only survive, but thrive, in both education and performance.

Our classes are small. We also provide scholarships for those who would otherwise be unable to attend, and we also work with those with disabilities — often one on one.

Please considering donating to the OYOU so that we can pay our teachers and performers a reasonable wage for their hard work and creative efforts.

Due to limited space at our workshops, and out of consideration for our teachers, we can not accept last minute additions to our workshop.

We do not allow walk ups.

All attendees of our workshops, must register in advance and receive confirmation from our staff .

We do not have a hang out space for friends or family during the workshop.

The OYOU hosts workshops on a variety of subjects throughout the year. People of all ages experience the joy of learning a musical instrument, writing a song, or learning arts and crafts. Classes are tailored from beginning to advanced. Some classes are all ages and some only focus on a specific age group. This means we've got workshops for kids and big kids! Our OYOU Programs are tailored for anyone — regardless of age or physical ability — to be able to enjoy the arts without the worry of social or mobility issues within a facility.

Our programs occur where anyone — regardless of income — can attend inspiring workshops on a variety of subjects tailored to enhance the mind, body, and spirt.

September 23rd: Alternative Tunings Guitar Workshop

"Alternate Tunings" September 30th Guitar Workshop W/Mandy Rowden @ Wilory Farm

OYOU Workshop

September 30th

Wilory Farm

10:00 - 12:00

Pastries and refreshments provided

Wilory Farm in Martindale, Texas

Teacher: Mandy Rowden

Level: Intermediate +

Ages: 18 +

Class is limited to 8 people

Class Description: Discover the world of alternate tunings! Get inspired by approaching your instrument in a brand new way! New tunings inspire new musical thoughts. Alternate tunings let you play voicings and slide between chord forms that would normally be impossible. They give access to nonstandard open strings. Playing familiar fingerings on an unfamiliar fretboard is exciting — you never know exactly what to expect. And working out familiar riffs on an unfamiliar fretboard often suggests new sound patterns and variations.

Mandy Rowden is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and founder of "Girl Guitar," which is a program designed to encourage women to participate in learning an instrument, writing, playing, and performing. Rowden is a student for life and plays an always-expanding list of instruments that now includes: piano, fiddle, mandolin, bass, harmonica, drums, ukulele, and banjo.

"Rowden is more than your average country singer and a country mile beyond your average Americana performer." - Bluesbunny

"Right up there in Lucinda Williams territory"

— No Depression

"An Americana Sheryl Crow? Mandy Rowden has the talent, chops, and charisma to go there."

— Austin Chronicle

"Cool middle-of-the-road pop with a friendly warm vibe...Rowden has an image and sound that could easily appeal to millions of music fans."

— BabySue.com

"On her debut album, These Bad Habits, Rowden tells it like it is over a wiry brand of alt-country, singing in a low-key, sleepily sensual voice that calls to mind Kim Richey or Lucinda Williams."

— Charleston City Paper
